2 Timothy 4:2-4, "preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."
The Spirit warned through Paul that days were coming when people would no longer want to hear what the Bible says but would instead seek out teachers who would tell them what they wanted to hear. Those days are here and have been here for quite some time. What should be our response? Should we get angry and throw Bibles at those 'heathens'? We are told in 2 Timothy 4:2 to preach the word all the time in many ways with patience. Sound teaching is not a time machine that fast forwards the church overnight into maturity. Sound teaching is the cultivation of a garden. Sound teaching is long-term investment.
Father, give us endurance and patience. Give us a teachable spirit and the willingness to make the sacrifice of teaching others. Do not let us grow weary of doing good but focus us on Christ. He is the center of truth. He is truth. May all that I preach and all that is taught at Mambrino be biblical and out of a heart of love; love for Christ and love for the church. Show us the importance of preaching the Word and not the myths of humanity. Make us mature disciples who do the work of an evangelist. Make me a mature disciple who does the work of an evangelist. Stir our hearts to love Christ and serve this world.
In Christ Alone
Amen
